Middle School Students Study Ben Heine Drawings
St. Monica middle schoolers studied the cleaver drawings of Ben Heine and then took a stab at creating their own insert drawing. Students went through magazines to find pictures that they could alter with a drawing to create a completely new message. They turned out so great and many were really funny. Way to go middle school!
St. M 2/3 Grade Draw and Write: If I Had A Time Machine...
St. Monica 2nd and 3rd graders were improving their art and literacy skills. They did a draw and write prompted as, "If I had a time machine...." Students were very creative and I loved the different places they wanted to travel to with their time machines!
Smith and Stoneburner's Students Create Op Art Weavings
As a class, we looked at many examples of op art and optical illusions. Students then created their own version of op art using a paper weaving technique. It was tricky to start but eventually everyone caught on. They turned out phenomenal! Excellent work artists!
St. A 1st Graders Learn About Germs
With so many people getting sick, we took initiative to talk about germs and how to prevent them from spreading. We looked at germs close up and then created our very own. Each one is unique and has a personality. Way to go 1st grade! Let's use our healthy habits to keep the germs away!

Some of these works, by artists such as Mary Cassatt, Jim Dine, Helen Frankenthaler, and Jasper Johns, have been brought together for this exhibition. Jan 26 - May 19, 2013
Time: Tues. - Sat. 10 am - 5 pm; Sun. 12 noon - 5 pm
Location: Kalamazoo Institute of Arts
Phone: 269-349-7775
"In my mind's eye, I visualize how a particular . . . sight and feeling will appear on a print. If it excites me, there is a good chance it will make a good photograph. It is an intuitive sense, an ability that comes from a lot of practice." Ansel Adams
Ansel Adams' skill at creating photographs with a remarkable range and subtly of tones is legendary. Yet for all his technical mastery, Adams recognized that what made a compelling photograph was far more elusive. This exhibition of Adams' photographs from the KIA collection suggests how his intuitive and emotional response to the landscape resulted in powerful and enduring photographs. Sponsored by Consumers Credit Union and Friendship Village.
